Just a few updates...

--I'm doing okay after my recent hospital stay (hmmm....didn't expect that to rhyme!) and although I still have follow-ups with my doctor and the pulmonary and cardiac specialists who treated me, I'm just glad not to be sick.  And I've started on the requests/commissions I had to put aside because of my illness.

--After all these years, I've finally signed up with Facebook.  I may create a separate page to post artwork--either drawings or full color stuff--some of them may be posted here, some not.  Either way, it's been quite the experience so far, especially contacting classmates from art school (one of whom is from Japan and used to work for Capcom!) and college.  While I had my concerns about FB, and still do, I can see the good that having an FB account can do.

--Animator Monty Oum passed away recently at the all-too-young age of 33.  His most recent work was the series RWBY, which is gaining popularity in Japan and even spawned an artbook with contributions from some of anime's top designers like Range Murata (Blue Sub No. 6) and Yoshitohi ABe (Serial Experiments Lain, Texnolyze).  I have to admit that I like RYBY and was very impressed by it.  The following links are to Monty's obituary in the New York Times, an article on the aftermath of his passing, and one other:

I never met Monty Oum, but I broke down reading about his passing.  He was far too young, and had so many more years left to create new works...it was even more painful because he died not too long after I had left the hospital after my own illness.  I'm not sure if there is an afterlife--all I can say as a lapsed Catholic is, "Who knows?"--but I hope that Monty's soul has gone on to a better place.

--For fans of concept art from film, please check out Film Sketchr, a great site that is a showcase of the concept art from recent films:

That's it for now--be well and take care of yourselves!
